Where to find Demi-glace?
I've been ordering from these food delivery recipe places (chefsplate, makegoodfood, etc) and most of their recipes call for stock and it comes in a form of a pouch which is of a syrup consistency. I own the powder and liquid and I believe the demi-glace is far better and can't seem to find it anywhere!! Most of the products they offer are for obvious reasons from a grocery store because they are labelled as such but these demi-glace packets have nothing on them so it's hard to know.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be great. The other day I wanted to re-do a recipe I made from a delivery a few weeks back and when asked for the demi-glace I used the bullion cube with some very little water until it thickened but way too much work.

This isn't exactly demi glace but it's close enough for what you want.

There's also Better than Bouillon which is more of a paste. Both you can find in regular grocery stores.

You can buy it at Pusateris. There's also some pretty good packet mixes like you'd find for gravy that you can locate in various places.

Demi-glace is totally different than stock, bouillion cubes, Better than Bouillion or some of these other things.
If thats really what you want you will likely have to order/buy from a fancy food store or higher end retailer.

Not necessarily: Cordon Bleu makes demi-glace in a can, not that I'm recommending it.

The one that GoodFoodMakes uses is this one I just came across it from doing a thorough search, I hope I can find this one at Pusateri's. This store is located in Vancouver and wants $24 for shipping!!

Better Than Boulion with a bit of water mixed in would do the trick for sure. I am doing this after trying one my good food boxes had that with pork chops.

Yes it's not true demi-glace but neither is the stuff the OP is getting from Hello Fresh/Chefsteps. I'm pretty sure they're using the term to make liquid stock sound
more exciting.

Scoop of chicken or beef better than bouillon and a dab of vegetable better than bouillon, a bit of cornstarch, water, fat.
Don't get into all that packaging with the individual servings. So environmentally unfriendly.

Everyone in this thread is fired. Packet, pastes, powders? Get out.
Real demi takes days to make.
That said, if OP thinks that less water and a cube is too much work, real demi probably isn't for them.

Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Um I pointed out you can buy the real stuff at Pusateri, which is quite correct. The one in the Eaton Centre had 12 tubs of it this afternoon.

Ok, most people in this thread are fired.
That said, I have no idea what a Pusateri is.

it's just 50% stock and 50% stock, roux, mirepoix, get over it. I am sure a combo of beef/chicken base, starch, and vegetable base will get you as close as you need to be at home, within a few minutes.

Days (plural) may be an exaggeration, but it's gonna be a day.
I mean... if you want to get technical it's 1:1 stock and Espagnole (which in itself takes additional time) and reduced which also takes time.
A good stock is already 8 hours. Then you gotta actually make the Espagnole which is another couple hours. Reducing both is another hour or two.
I am sure a combo of beef/chicken base, starch, and vegetable base will get you as close as you need to be at home, within a few minutes.
"get you as close as you need to be" isn't very close at all.
I can't argue the time as per above, but I can certainly argue the flavor.

OP is seeking to replace a convenience product in a packet. I hardly think you need to put in the effort to replace that successfully.

For the price that these meal kit places are charging I'm hoping they're using a real demi instead of a powder.

Nope, OP says it's this one: https://www.savorychoice.com/product/sa ... ncentrate/
Chicken Stock, Natural Flavor, Salt, Chicken Fat, Sugar, Maltodextrin, Yeast Extract and Xanthan Gum.

I'm more impressed they're charging $15/portion and using that....
